What is Herbal Medicine?
We believe that it is important to offer natural, yet effective options to traditional Western medicine for clients who are interested in holistic options to improve their health. The art of herbal medicine has endless functions for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Whether you’re treating acute conditions, chronic persistent conditions, or you simply want a custom-tailored formula for maintenance, herbal medicine is essential for optimal health.
Herbal medicine, both eastern and western traditions, has been practiced for centuries around the globe. These traditions are some of the oldest forms of medicine on the planet, standing the test of time. In fact, many pharmaceutical drugs today are based on herbal medicine traditions which utilize the active ingredient of powerful herbs in highly concentrated doses. In the holistic practice of herbal medicine, however, we incorporate the whole plant which allows for a more gentle absorption of the constituents, thus resulting in fewer side effects.
Herbal Medicine can be highly effective in treating your mental, emotional, and physical health. Through detailed pulse-reading and other forms of diagnosis, we can establish a clear picture of the internal map of the body. Through this, we can create custom-tailored formulas that fit your specific needs. Whether we’re working with an acute condition, a chronic persistent condition, or working to maintain a healthy, balanced body, herbal medicine is essential for optimal health.
Herbal medicine is unique in its ability to address an array of symptoms while being wholly natural, gentle, and lacking side effects when used properly. Some examples of symptoms and conditions that can be readily addressed through herbal medicine include:
Types of Herbal Medicine:
Herbal medicine comes in various shapes and sizes. The most common forms are capsules, tinctures, raw herbs, and topicals.
In general, raw herbs and tinctures are the most effective and absorbable forms of internal herbal medicine. Capsules are convenient and easy to take, but don’t digest quite as easily. This is why I prefer to use raw herbal teas and tinctures as much as possible.
Traditional herbal teas are often not designed for taste, so in order to promote better consumption of medicinal teas, I create herbal blends that are both effective and easy to drink. I carry pre-made herbal teas for various traditional patterns as well as create custom-tailored formulas for specific conditions and symptoms.
Topicals are herbal remedies that are used externally on the body, These come in the form of salves, oils, creams, or raw herbal poultices. In general, topical formulas are great for things such as pain, skin disorders, stress, and muscle aches. All of these forms of medicine, both external and internal, are an effective and convenient way to incorporate natural healing into your daily routine.
Herbal Medicine is included in your acupuncture session, and may also be scheduled as a separate service without acupuncture.
