Holistic Health Coaching

Let food be thy medicine, let medicine be thy food.

  • Are you looking for a natural way to improve your mood, lower stress, increase energy, memory or concentration?

  • Do you want to stay away from prescription drugs, but you're desperate to find relief for anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues?

  • Have you tried medication and even done hard work in therapy only to find minimal symptom relief?

  • Perhaps you're simply looking to lose weight or to improve your overall health or diet.

It is important to know that healing the physical aspects of what makes you stressed, sad, or worried, is just as essential as healing the emotional and mental aspects. Our emotions, thoughts, and physical body are interconnected.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, or other mental health issues, improving your diet and lifestyle habits can be a significant contributing factor to feeling better.  Many clients come to Trilogy who want to feel better, but just can’t seem to get their worries, sadness, or stress under control. Sometimes this occurs, despite hard work in therapy. Usually, this is when we look to the physical reasons behind this roadblock.

Inflammation & Your Mental Health

Research is beginning to show a connection between chronic inflammation in the body and depression.  Inflammation is your body’s natural defense system that protects you from harmful invasions of infection or other stressors.

Acute inflammation is short-lived and essential for healing (imagine a swollen ankle after it is sprained). Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is the root of all illness and can also feed symptoms of anxiety and depression. It develops due to dietary and lifestyle choices, as well as environmental factors. A few examples of disease caused by chronic inflammation include arthritis, IBS/Crohn's, Alzheimers, Cancer, Auto-immune diseases, and many more.

Inflammation is a silent killer that contributes to most chronic diseases and it contributes to 7 out of the top 10 causes of death in the US. Understanding inflammation is the key to living a healthy life.

Symptoms Of Chronic Inflammation

  • Digestive issues, including gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, etc.

  • High blood glucose

  • Weight gain, especially around your waist

  • Fatigue and constant exhaustion

  • Sleep troubles

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Brain fog

  • Skin problems, including psoriasis, eczema, acne, redness, or puffiness

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Allergy symptoms

  • Gum disease

  • Frequent cold and illness

  • Joint and muscle pains

  • Lingering, unexplained, and random pains

Cleaning up our diet can heal the root cause of chronic inflammation and set us up for long term health, energy and well-being.  The gut is known as the "second brain". It is comprised of ecosystems of bacteria and vast neural networks that communicate back and forth with the brain via the vagus nerve. Our gut is also where the vast majority of serotonin is produced (which greatly affects mood!). Nearly 80% of our immune system is also located in the gut, influencing our health and energy levels.

Learning about foods and lifestyle choices that increase inflammation, and making changes to reduce it can drastically improve your mood and your overall well-being.

Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue is another common ailment in our modern society, and happens when we've been chronically stressed, over-worked, and leaving our body running on adrenaline for far too long. Our adrenal system is meant to help us during times of acute stress, but are not meant to endure chronic stress.

If you've had any life stressors (examples include the birth of a child, being a student, losing a job, a divorce, trauma, loss, or illness, single parenting, financial worries, over-exercising, poor diet), your adrenal system is likely being pushed beyond its limits.  Over time, when we live lives with these types of stressors but do little to help our bodies heal or stay calm, we can develop Adrenal Fatigue. Often people can mistake symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue for clinical depression or anxiety.  Medication and/or therapy may help this slightly, but will not address the root cause, leaving you feeling only short-term or minimal relief.

Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include:

  • weakness

  • trouble falling and staying asleep ("wired but tired")

  • waking up fatigued

  • feeling tired all day and then getting energized or anxious in the evening

  • craving salt or sugar

  • needing stimulants to get through the day (i.e. caffeine)

  • trouble concentrating

  • digestive problems (i.e. IBS)

  • headaches

  • irritability

  • mood swings

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • frequent illnesses/decreased immune system

  • belly fat
